Can CBD Oil Lower Cholesterol?

The statistics on heart disease in the United States are hugely alarming. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 610, 000 people die of heart disease every year. To put that in perspective, that is one in every four deaths. Basically, heart disease is one of the biggest killers of both men and women in the United States.

Regularly exercising can help reduce the risk of heart disease. It’s no wonder why there has been an increase in the number of people running in parks and visiting gym facilities in the mornings and evenings.

What about people with demanding careers who cannot find enough time to exercise? Are they all doomed?

The answer to this is a simple no. Research on the alternative ways of reducing heart disease has been ongoing for many years now.  By looking at the factors that cause heart disease, scientists have been able to identify a product that can significantly reduce the chances of getting heart diseases.

The CDC states that high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and smoking are critical risk factors for heart disease. While many people endeavor to avoid the last two risk factors, the first factor is not taken as seriously. Many times it is as a result of lack of in-depth knowledge of what cholesterol is and its effects.

Therefore, it is essential to understand everything about cholesterol.

What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a fatty and wax-like substance that can be found in every cell in the human body.

It helps in the production of sex hormones, the production of bile in the liver, and allows the body to produce vitamin D.

Cholesterol is predominantly produced in the liver, but it can also be introduced in the body through ingesting foods that are rich in cholesterol.

There are two types of cholesterol: low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). LDL is commonly referred to as the bad cholesterol while HDL is the good cholesterol.

Good versus Bad Cholesterol

When there is a high level of bad cholesterol in the blood, it slowly starts to buildup in the arteries. This constricts the arteries making the flow of blood to essential organs of the body difficult.

This is because bad cholesterol contains more fat than proteins.

This fat can also be deposited along the pumping mechanism of the heart leading to increased chances of developing heart complications in the future.

Good cholesterol, on the other hand, helps the body to remove excess cholesterol from the blood and ensures it returns to the liver where it is broken down into waste material and later excreted out of the body.

Good cholesterol contains more proteins than fat.

Cholesterol from ingesting fast foods is mostly LDL, hence the reason medical practitioners advice against consuming fast foods regularly.

CBD Oil and Turmeric

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is a hemp extract that is becoming increasingly popular because of the many benefits the oil has.

CBD oils are now used in the treatment of cancer, Parkinson’s disease, glaucoma, epilepsy, acne, anxiety, and depression among others.

It is this long list of medical uses that convinced the government to declassify hemp as a controlled substance.

People can now grow hemp just like any other agricultural product that they feel will bring profits to them. Therefore, it is within your legal right to seek CBD products for ailments that can be treated by the products.

A high cholesterol level in the body can also be treated by using CBD oil.

Research conducted by scientists to establish the relationship between CBD and cholesterol in the body has shown that CBD does affect the cholesterol in the body – but in a positive way. It does this by lowering LDL cholesterol levels in the body. As mentioned earlier, this is the bad cholesterol that constricts arteries stopping the flow of blood to essential organs.

The unconstructed arteries, therefore, ensure that blood is pumped to all the organs of the body. There are also no heart complications that develop as a result of LDL cholesterol.

Surprisingly, recent research into turmeric has shown that it can also be used to lower the LDL level in the body.  For this reason, some manufacturers have come up with a way of infusing CBD oil and turmeric to produce an easy to ingest product known as turmeric capsules.

Some studies have even shown that CBD oil increases the level of HDL cholesterol.  This is because it is believed that hemp products contain omega-3 and omega-6. It is the omega-6 that is responsible for decreasing the bad cholesterol while at the same time increasing the level of good cholesterol. The omega-3 is responsible for protecting the heart against fatal diseases as well as having anti-inflammatory effects.

You have probably heard of people selling omega-3 and omega-6 supplements at very high prices. These are the same supplements that can be found in CBD oil. The most exciting aspect of all this is that CBD oil is relatively cheap. You get omega benefits without having to compromise your financial stability.

Also, the studies have shown that CBD can increase metabolism rates. A high metabolism ensures that the body can process calories faster. Whenever unprocessed calories are left in the body, they are stored as fat. The fat will eventually lead to heart complications. CBD oil helps the body to get rid of this fat.

It is important to underscore that these CBD products are not psychoactive; they do not leave you with the high feeling you get after smoking marijuana. You also do not get other symptoms related to marijuana usage such as nausea.

Conclusion

Research on the use of CBD oil in lowering levels of bad cholesterol, while still increasing the levels of good cholesterol in the body is still in the early stages. Nevertheless, the results look promising. The fact that the government passed a bill to make hemp legal shows that early research has produced enough evidence to show that CBD products work.

With a little more room to innovate now, scientists in the CBD industry will be able to come up with findings from which we can draw firm conclusions. However, taking action today will prevent you from becoming another statistic. The research presented indeed suggests that CBD oil can reduce the cholesterol level in your body.
